Dữ liệu gần đây từ Kho bạc Hoa Kỳ cho thấy các thành viên BRICS là Trung Quốc, Ấn Độ và Brazil đã bán 18,5 tỷ USD trái phiếu kho bạc và đô la kể từ tháng trước. Trong khi Trung Quốc bán trái phiếu chính phủ trị giá 16,4 tỷ USD thì Ấn Độ đã bán ra lượng chứng khoán được chính phủ Mỹ hậu thuẫn trị giá 1,5 tỷ USD. Mặt khác, Brazil đã cắt giảm 600 triệu USD dự trữ của kho bạc Mỹ trong 30 ngày qua.
Tuy nhiên, bất chấp đợt bán tháo, Izak Odendaal , Giám đốc chiến lược đầu tư tại Old Mutual Wealth nói rằng BRICS đã không phối hợp cố gắng loại bỏ đồng đô la Mỹ. Odendaal nhấn mạnh rằng việc ba thành viên BRICS giảm tải đồng đô la Mỹ cho thấy sự thống trị của USD chứ không phải ngược lại.
Động thái từ BRICS chuyển sang giảm tải cho kho bạc Mỹ cho thấy các nước này đang tìm cách bảo vệ lợi ích trong nước của mình. Mục đích là để ngăn chặn đồng nội tệ của họ kết thúc ở mức thấp mới so với đồng đô la Mỹ đang tăng giá. Nhà phân tích cho biết, do đó, sự phát triển này ít hoặc không liên quan gì đến ý tưởng phi đô la hóa.
“Đây hoàn toàn không phải là nỗ lực phối hợp của các nước BRICS nhằm phi đô la hóa. Ngược lại, nó củng cố mức độ thống trị của đồng đô la Mỹ. Đồng đô la gần đây đã rất mạnh vì lãi suất của Mỹ rõ ràng sẽ còn cao hơn trong thời gian dài hơn”, Odendaal nói với IOL.
Chiến lược gia này giải thích rằng đồng đô la Mỹ đang vượt trội hơn tất cả các loại tiền tệ địa phương bao gồm Nhân dân tệ Trung Quốc và Rand Nam Phi. Ông nói: “Theo quan điểm của Nam Phi, đồng đô la mạnh đã gây áp lực lớn lên đồng rand và gián tiếp gây áp lực tăng lãi suất trong nước”.
Đồng đô la Mỹ tăng vẫn đáng lo ngại đối với BRICS
Đồng đô la Mỹ vượt trội hơn tất cả năm loại tiền tệ BRICS kể từ tháng trước và đứng đầu. Đồng đô la Mỹ tăng đang tạo thêm áp lực lên các đồng nội tệ và đang ảnh hưởng đến lĩnh vực xuất nhập khẩu của họ. Chi phí nhập khẩu nhiều loại hàng hóa trở nên đắt đỏ và đổi lại dẫn đến giá cả tăng ở các nước BRICS.
Do đó, để kiềm chế đồng đô la Mỹ tăng giá, Ấn Độ và Trung Quốc đã khởi xướng nhiều phương pháp khác nhau để kiểm soát đồng USD.
