Thành viên mới của BRICS, Iran đã liên hệ với Tổ chức Hợp tác Thượng Hải (SCO) để thúc giục họ từ bỏ đồng đô la Mỹ trong các giao dịch toàn cầu. Iran kêu gọi SCO bắt đầu tăng cường thanh toán xuyên biên giới bằng đồng nội tệ chứ không phải bằng đô la Mỹ.
Iran, thành viên BRICS, cho biết một trật tự thế giới mới công bằng và cân bằng sẽ được hình thành nếu tất cả các nước chấm dứt sự phụ thuộc vào đồng đô la Mỹ. Iran kêu gọi các quốc gia đang phát triển sử dụng đồng nội tệ cho thương mại toàn cầu để làm suy yếu triển vọng của đồng đô la Mỹ.
Tuyên bố của Iran được đưa ra vào thời điểm Mỹ đóng băng lại 6 tỷ USD tiền dầu mỏ sau cuộc tấn công của Hamas vào Israel. Nền kinh tế của họ hiện đang gặp khó khăn khi không có dòng tiền đổ vào dự trữ. Vì vậy, các nhà lãnh đạo đang phải dùng đến nhiều chiến thuật khác nhau để vực dậy nền kinh tế đang trên bờ vực sụp đổ.

Phó Tổng thống Iran Mohammad Mokhber cho rằng thế giới cần một thị trường tài chính công bằng và cân bằng và điều đó sẽ chỉ đạt được nếu đồng đô la Mỹ giảm giá.
“Để hình thành một trật tự thế giới mới và công bằng, việc chuyển đổi sang giao dịch bằng tiền tệ quốc gia là cần thiết. Cũng như tăng cường hợp tác về năng lượng, công nghiệp và công nghệ hiện đại. Tất cả điều này đóng một vai trò quan trọng”, ông nói.
Mokhber kêu gọi SCO tăng cường thanh toán bằng nội tệ và ngừng sử dụng đồng đô la Mỹ. Ông tuyên bố: “Vì vậy, chúng tôi đặc biệt kêu gọi các nước thành viên SCO tăng cường thanh toán bằng tiền tệ quốc gia” . SCO và BRICS đang đưa ra những ý tưởng khác nhau để sử dụng đồng nội tệ chứ không phải đồng đô la Mỹ.
SCO là một liên minh gồm chín thành viên bao gồm các nước Trung Quốc, Ấn Độ, Nga, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan và Uzbekistan. Trung Quốc, Ấn Độ, Nga và thành viên mới Iran cũng là thành viên của liên minh BRICS. Do đó, sáng kiến phi đô la hóa đang được lan rộng trên tất cả các quốc gia vào năm 2023.
